Bed Bugs Rash
Rashes appear when a bed bug injects the person with its saliva, which is usually at night when they are asleep. This rash gets red and swollen and does not clear easily but last s for sometime causing the person a lot of discomfort and scratching. It is only when the redness and swelling appears that a person realizes that they have been bitten by a bed bug. Once the person realizes that they have been bitten by bed bugs they should wash the area thoroughly with some antiseptic water so that the itching stops or at least lessens. If this is not done then the itching continues and because of scratching it welts form and the broken skin can get infected too. This infected skin can only heal with proper external medication.
The saliva of the bed bug which is injected into the victim's skin has an anesthetic as well as an anticoagulant. Because of this, neither does the person feel the bite immediately nor does the blood clot immediately, which makes it easy for bed bug to feed on the blood. The rash does not appear for as much as a week sometimes as this depends on the person's reaction to the bite and the allergy to the saliva of the bed bug. The rashes are always multiple bites and there are usually more than a single bed bug which has bitten the person.
Though antihistamines reduce the itching they do not do away with the lesions which last for a few days. However, hydrocortisone when applied externally is known to have better results in making both the itching and the rash disappear. Applying hot water to the area of the bites is known to give some relief to persons. The water should be over 120 degrees F and if this is running water allowed to flow over the bites the nerve endings which send signals of the sensation of itching are overwhelmed by this heat treatment and the itching disappears.
It is best to treat the bites with some home remedies immediately instead of scratching the areas as this will only cause the skin to break and the condition to worsen because of infections which can set in. So immediate washing with really hot water and then an external application of a hydrocortisone ointment should do the trick.
Bed Bugs
The bedbug is the most commonly found insect, which lives by drawing blood from humans. They usually live in the dark corners of the bed and only come out at night. These bugs can be found in the temperate regions across the world. The adult of the species are found to grow 4 to 5 millimeter in length. It is widely believed that the bugs are attracted by filthy surroundings, but there is nothing supporting this view.
Studies reveal that bedbugs are quite sensitive to carbon dioxide and body heat. They are attracted by a higher amount of carbon dioxide being exhaled by the humans and also by the heat of their body. They feed on the blood of humans.
The bedbugs have two tubes, which they pierce into the body of the host. One tube is used to inject the saliva of the bedbug onto its host. The saliva of these bugs has anesthetics and anticoagulants in it. After injecting its saliva into the host, bed bugs suck on the blood of the host with the help of the other tube. The host does not get aware of the biting by them. It is only after itch starts when they know that they have fallen prey.
People affected with constant bites of bedbugs have been found to report of anxiety, stress and even insomnia. However, bedbugs have not been found to transmit any kind of diseases. Thus, they are less dangerous from other blood sucking insects.
Catching hold of bedbugs is really very difficult, but you can definitely take care so that your house is not infested by them. The most basic part is to change your mattresses from time to time and let them out in the sunlight at least once in two weeks. A good housekeeping ensures that your home does not get infested by bedbugs.
